Thursday Matinees

What could be more fun on a Wednesday afternoon than coming together, munching some popcorn, and watching a movie? Every other week, we'll provide the popcorn and a film to watch and discuss. 

March 6 — Confirmation (2016) — Celebrate Women's History Month with us. Kerry Washington stars as Anita Hill in this biopic about Judge Clarence Thomas' nomination to the United States Supreme Court and the resulting sexual harassment case.

March 20 — Chocolat (2000) — Let's indulge in Chocolate Week with this tasty romantic comedy starring Juliette Binoche as Vianne, a single-mother and chocolatier who disrupts a 1950s French village with her unusual recipes and eccentric lifestyle.

April 3 — The Cotton Club (1984) — Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with this musically-laced crime drama set in one of the most famous 1930s jazz clubs in Harlem. Featuring Gregory Hines, Lonette McKee, Richard Gere, and Diane Lane.

April 17 — Things Never Said (2013) — National Poetry Month slams into us with this poetically-charged film. Shanola Hampton stars as Kalindra Stepney, a poet trying desperately to find an outlet for her struggling voice and escape from her abusive husband.

May 1 — Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) — We bow to royalty during National Princess Week with this musical version of Cinderella, starring Brandy Norwood in the title role and Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother.

May 15 — Down in the Delta (1998) — We will honor our mothers this week of Mother's Day with this inspiring drama directed by Maya Angelou. Alfre Woodard stars as Loretta, a troubled single mother from a tough Chicago neighborhood who spends a summer at her family's ancestral home in rural Mississippi.

May 29 — 9 to 5 (1980) — Celebrate workers and laborer's this Labor History Month alongside Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda as they get comedic justice on their a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigoted boss.
