Holiday Film Matinee

Holiday Film Matinee

To get into a fun and festive mood, we'll watch a holiday-themed film every Thursday in December.

Dec. 4th — Shop Around the Corner (1940): Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) are employees at Matuschek and Company, a general store in Budapest. Klara and Alfred are constantly at odds with each other, butting heads and disagreeing on almost everything. Both are enamored of their respective pen pals, who serve as welcome distractions in their lives.

Dec. 11th – The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017): In 1843 London, author Charles Dickens finds himself in financial trouble after writing three unsuccessful novels in a row. Desperate for a hit, Dickens relies on real-life inspiration and his vivid imagination to bring Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters to life in A Christmas Carol, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration known today.

Dec. 18th — The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992): Despite cinephiles old and young debating who the best Ebeneezer Scrooge is on film, we all know it's Michael Caine in this musical retelling of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Featuring Gonzo as Charles Dickens himself, Kermit the Frog as the hard-working Bob Cratchit, and the rest of the Muppet family in various roles, this is one of the most popular holiday films.
